The political landscape in Russia grew significantly more turbulent when the body of a pro-Putin regional politician was discovered outside of his home this past weekend.
According to reports from local authorities, Boris Viktorov was found dead on Sunday morning outside of his home in the Ural region. Although the cause of death is still unknown, an initial investigation has revealed Victorov’s murder may have been carried out due to a political feud.
The incident has caused controversy in some circles because Viktorov was an ardent supporter of President Putin’s political agenda.
Viktorov held the position of Deputy Prime Minister of the region just two months prior to his death. He had recently been involved in a local political dispute about the encroaching uranium mining industry. His opponents, mainly belonging to the environmental protection advocacy organization Environmental Mongolia, pointed out how the uranium mining could lead to serious pollution of the Ural region. Viktorov was resolute in his support of the mining industry and had even proposed additional tax breaks for the industry in his last speech as Prime Minister.
His death has been met with shock and disbelief by many of those who knew him, with some of his closest allies describing him as someone who was passionate about his work and who was deeply committed to serving the people of the Ural region.
The incident has led to calls for a thorough investigation into the death of the politician and the circumstances surrounding it. As of now, no arrests have been made and the investigation is still ongoing.
The death of Viktorov has sent shockwaves throughout the country, as it has led to the question of whether Vladimir Putin’s regime is doing enough to protect its citizens. It undoubtedly adds to the growing discontent among the populace about the president’s policies. Unfortunately, this tragedy is a reminder of the fragility of life, regardless of political background.
